My style

My style is photojournalism for a  very important reasons. I am very camera shy. I feel that discomfort in other peoples photos and want to show people how they really look when they are being themselves.

For me its important to capture soul - of a person, an animal, and even a place.

I use a long lens so that I am quite a distance away from people. My favourite photos are made when I zoom in on individuals in groups who are animated and chatting, or having a pensive moment, and not at all aware that I am photographing them.

Light plays an important role as well. I do not use a flash because you loose the reflection of natural light from the eyes and I feel that the true expression is gone. In addition the face takes on a different quality that is not true to the moment.

I am not completely faithful to photojournalism because I do work on photos to bring the best out of them, but I like to take the photos in the most natural circumstances and settings possible.

Photos should capture the atmosphere and the mood of the moment, and should transport people back in time when they view them. This can only be artificial if people are too aware of my  presence.

Note though that I will do traditional group photos at weddings and events but that is only a small portion of the photos that I will take.

Its up to you to decide if you like a photographers style. A photographer's photos are great when they are doing what they love. You would not get Bob Marley to perform Beethoven.
